Criteria for Membership in the Halifax Executives Association

  • The Company: should have an exceptional reputation and provide first class products or services and outstanding customer care. The company should be in a category that is not already filled by an existing HXA member.
  • The Representative: should be of good character and, if not the owner, will usually be in a position to influence their company’s operating policy and purchasing requirements. The Representative should have the desire and capability to help others obtain business with his/her own company and with his/her favoured customers and contacts. The Representative should be committed to attend HXA's weekly meetings.

Responsibilities of Membership
  • The member should aim to attend at least 50% of the year's weekly luncheon meetings. There is no penalty or additional cost if the member's spouse or associate attends in place of the member. If the member's spouse or associate attends in addition to the member, there is a $20 + HST charge. 
  • Members are encouraged to invite prospective members, business colleagues and other guests to the weekly meetings and social functions. A charge of $20 + HST per guest will be invoiced to the member.
  • When inviting guests to HXA meetings and functions, members are asked to consider the possibility of any conflict with the business interests of existing members, and, where such conflicts may exist, to seek the agreement of the affected member.


Included in your Membership 

  • Included in each member's dues are:-
    • the weekly luncheon (approx 42 three-course luncheons per year) [a $20 value];
    • four seasonal special events for the member and spouse/associate (Christmas Dinner Party, Valentines Dinner Dance, summer BBQ/AGM, and the Fall Lobster Supper) [a $55 value per person, per event];
    • guest speakers;
    • invitations to numerous other social & networking events (two golf tournaments, curling bonspiels, day trips, brewery tours, off-site visits, etc), exact cost tba.


Applying for Membership 

  • The prospective member's business category must be unfilled and must not conflict with that of an existing member.
  • Prospective members must be nominated by an existing member and should attend a weekly meeting as a guest.
  • A membership form must be completed and annual dues (below) must be paid upon receipt of invoice.


Fee Schedule

  • Dues are determined by the Board of Directors and are pro-rated for new members depending on date of joining.
  • Dues are invoiced upon joining, and annually thereafter each June.
  • For Membership Year June 2010 - May 2011, the fees are $975 + HST (pro-rated from date of joining), the equivalent to approximately $18.75 per week.
